With a nod to Mother’s Day this past Sunday, I’m recycling a post I wrote six years ago.
I’ll Never Say that to My Kids
Remember that line your mother always said that you vowed never to repeat to your children?
“Eat your vegetables. There are starving children in Africa who would love to have vegetables to eat.”
“Shut the door. We’re not heating (or cooling) the outdoors.”
“Don’t mumble. If you have something to say, speak up.”
“Are you going out looking like that?”
“Always wear clean underwear in case you get in an accident.”
“Call me when you get there so I know you arrived safely.”
Mom’s Always Right
Okay, raise your hand if you’ve ever heard any of these dreaded words coming out of your mouth. Anybody with me?
It’s hard to admit that our moms were right about most things. We usually can’t see that maternal wisdom until we’re walking in those shoes. How about you? What phrases did your mother use constantly that have proven true. Leave a comment and tell me your mom’s phrase and how you discovered its truth.
As for me, I was a very picky eater. Any time I turned up my nose at something and said, “I don’t like it,” Mom would respond, “Well, you can learn to like it.” She was right. I eat all kinds of things now that I was certain tasted awful.
Don’t forget to leave a comment! What was your mom’s Go To phrase?
